L’idea alla base del Raspberry Pi è quello di fornire un ambiente di calcolo in cui i bambini possono avere la libertà di programmare, ma, come si può immaginare, l’utilizzo non si ferma a questo. Visto la bassa potenza può essere usato come Web Server, Client SSH o anche Media Center. Le possibilità di utilizzo sono infinite.
Il boot del Sistema Operativo avviene tramite SD Card e attualmente il dispositivo è supportato ufficialmente da versioni customizzate di Debian “wheezy” (Raspbian) e Arch Linux ARM. Gli OS sono disponibili su http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads.
